DAC
Dark Air Cured
| Process | Dried under a roof for a longer period (40–60 days) |
| Results | Darker leaf color and different chemical composition compared to flue-cured bright tobacco |
BD
Browning Degree
| Meaning | Refers to the browning degree of the leaf during the curing process |
| Characteristics | Higher browning correlates with changes in sugars and polyphenols |
F8
Fines
| Size | "Fine cut" - passes through 1/8 and held over 1/16 screens |
| Usage | Small particles used in specific blends |
STM
Short/Long Steam
| Process | Steaming duration affects final color, moisture, and chemical properties |
| Results | Fermenting or steaming can turn tobacco black (Virginia Cavendish process) |
